introduction

The location of the surface expression of the Antarctic Polar Front has been determined from horizontal gradients in sea-surface temperature.  Daily images of sea-surface temperature at 9 km resolution  were used  to determine polar front variations on a weekly timescale.  The data presented here are averages of these weekly variations between 1987 and mid 1999.

The sea-surface temperature images used in this study were derived from AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) measurements.  These data were obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)/NASA Pathfinder Program.

Further details and discussions of this study can be found in Moore et al. (1997),   Moore et al. (1999), and Moore (1999).  The data presented here are freely available for use by the scientific community.
