introduction

A number of optical drifters were deployed off the coast of California over a period of 4 years (1993-1996).  These drifters measured the sea surface temperature, downwelling irradiance at 490 nm just above the sea surface, and upwelling radiance at seven wavebands in the visible just beneath the sea surface.

This set of documents describes the instruments used and the resulting data.  The data from these deployments may also be downloaded from this site.

This work is part of a study undertaken by the Oregon State University (OSU) Remote Sensing Ocean Optics group (ORSOO).
